Nórika nagyon szereti Bartos Erika és Marék Veronika könyveit. Mindketten rendkívül jól írnak (és rajzolnak) ennek a korosztálynak. Miután elolastunk néhányat ezek közül, kérdeztem Nórit, hogy nem akar-e rajzolni. Elővette a rajzeszközeit, de nem tudta, hogy mit rajzoljon. Javasoltam, hogy a csúnya kislányt (Marék Veronika könyvéből.) Nóri magához vette a könyvet, majd ezzel a rajzzal jött vissza; nekem a legjobban a szempillák tetszenek.

Nora has a few favorite Hungarian writers whose books she loves to revisit. After reading some of these today she drew the above picture of one of the characters, the ugly girl. I love the eyelashes.

Montessori tanulmányaim során mindig azt tanultam, hogy a gyerekeknek nincs szükségük jutalomra, mindent csak a saját, belső örömükért tesznek. Hát az én gyermekem elfelejtette ezeket a könyveket elolvasni, és Markkal már több jutalmazási módszert is kipróbáltunk vele. Úgy tűnik, hogy (legalábbis egy bizonyos időre) találtunk egy jó módszert ami – legalábbis Nórival – nagyon szépen működik.
Nórinak a legnagyobb jutalom az, ha pénteken és szombaton este a mi ágyunkban aludhat, amit ő találta ki hónapokkal ezelőtt.

Múlt vasárnap kezdtük az üvegköves rendszert, ami így működik:
egy 16 fakkos jégkockatartó mellé tettünk egy adag szép üvegkövet egy edénybe. Amikor Nóri valami jót csinál, azért megjutalmazzuk egy kővel (amit mi veszünk ki az edényből, de ő teszi be a jégkockatartóba és mindig meg is számolja őket). Viszont ha nem viselkedik jól, akkor kiveszünk egy követ a tartóból. A cél az, hogy minden fakkban legalább egy kőnek kell lennie péntek estéig ahhoz, hogy velünk aludhasson. Egy hasonló rendszert kipróbáltunk régebben is, de az nem működött ilyen jól. Ott ugyanis egy napra csak egy matricát kapott, vagy nem kapott. Itt viszont egy nap alatt történhet sok jó dolog és némi “rossz” is, de a végeredmény elősegítheti a célja elérését.

Néhány példa arra, hogy miért kap követ (ezek közül néhányat példaként kiemeltünk neki amikor elmagyaráztuk a rendszert, de nem egy lista alapján megy a jutalmazás):

• pizsama felvétele egy kérésre
• WC-re menés és kézmosás egy kérésre
• vacsora teljes elfogyasztása noszogatás nélkül – erre még nem sikerült kapnia
• pl. tegnap délután Anthony nem akart pihenni, és amikor őt kihoztam a szobából Nóri tovább aludt. A jutalmat azért kapta, mert hallgatott a testére és a pihenést választotta a játék helyett.

Most pedig egy kis lista arra, hogy mikor veszíthet el követ:

• Nyafog és kérésünkre sem hagyja abba.
• Visszabeszél vagy kiabál velünk.
• Nem teljesít valami kérésünket (játék elrakás, stb.)
• Ha belenyúl a köves edénybe egyedül, akkor az összes addig szerzett kövét elvesszük.

Úgy érezzük, hogy ez azért jó módszer Nóri számára, mert közben tanulja, hogy mit tartunk helyesnek és mit nem.

Csak annyit mondok még, hogy tegnap este velünk aludt.

During my Montessori studies I’ve learned, that children don’t need rewards because they do things for their own inner satisfaction. My child somehow forgot to read these books, therefore Mark and I have tried lots of different reward systems with her. We have just tried a new one, and we might have found the one that works for her – at least for a while.
For Nora the biggest reward is to sleep with us Friday and Saturday night – she came up with this many months ago.

Last Sunday we started this new marble system. Here is how it works:
there is a pile of marbles in a bowl next to a 16 compartment ice cube tray. When Nora does something good we reward her with a marble (which we take out of the bowl but she puts it into the tray and she counts them too). On the other hand, when she does something wrong we take a marble away from her. The goal is, that by Friday night she has to have at least one marble in each compartment. We tried a similar system earlier but it didn’t work too well; we judged the whole day in it with a sticker or with no sticker. In our new system there are many right things and many wrong things that can happen in one day.

Here are a few examples for why she gets or looses a marble (we gave her a few examples of these when we explained the system, but we don’t go by a list).

She may get a marble for:

• putting her pajamas in a timely manner when asked
• going to the bathroom and washing her hands when asked (or without asking)
• finishing all her dinner without constant reminders – she hasn’t earned a marble for this one yet
• for example, yesterday Anthony didn’t want to take a nap, and when I took him out of the room Nora went back to sleep. I rewarded her for listening to her body and choosing resting over playing.

So when can she loose a marble?

• she whines and she she doesn’t stop it when we ask
• she talks back to us or she yells at us
• does not follow our requests (putting her toys away, etc.)
• if she touches the marbles in the bowl, she looses ALL from the tray.

We think this system works for Nora, because she is learning what we think is right and what is wrong.

Just one more thing: she slept with us last night.

Kb. 3 hete Nóri felvett egy új szokást.
Amikor lefektetjük az ágyába Daddytől kap egy utolsó puszit, és ő kimegy a szobából. Én maradok egy-két percre és csiklandozom a bőrét. Aztán elindulok ki a szobából amikor is ő belekezdi:
- Jó éjszakát Mami! És jó napot is! És aludj jól! És mi van még? (Akkor súgok neki.) Álmodj szépeket!
- Köszönöm, és Te is. Ekkor kilépek a szobából.
- SZÍVESEN! – kiabálja Nóri. SZÍVESEN MAMI! Ekkor meg kell megint köszönnöm azt, hogy a szívesent mondta. Ha nem köszönöm meg, akkor a következő néhány percben ugyanezeket kiabálja torka szakadtából amíg tudomásul nem veszem és nem válaszolok.

In the past 3 weeks Nora has started a new nighttime thing. When we put her to bed Daddy gives her a last kiss and he leaves. I stay for another 1-2 minutes and tickle her skin. Then I start walking out her room when she quickly starts telling me:
- Good night Mommy! And have a good day too! And sleep tight! What else? (I whisper to it to her.) Nice dreams!
- Thank you and I wish the same. I step out of her room.
- YOU’RE WELCOME! – she yells. YOU’RE WELCOME, MOMMY! At this point I have to thank her again for saying you’re welcome to me. If I don’t, she will yell these same greetings over and over again until I finally react to them.

Tegnap este NAGYON buszkek voltunk Norira. A furdes kozben eloszedtem a betuit, amivel jatszani szoktunk. De ahelyett, hogy csak a hangokat kerdeztem volna, csinaltam beloluk egy 3 betus angol szot. Csodak csodajara, miutan egyenkent megmondta a hangokat, ossze is olvasta oket. Persze adtam neki sorban a tobbit is, igy ilyen szavakat olvasott ki (angolul): cat (macska), dog (kutya), hat (kalap), mat (matrac), bib (eloke), hot (forro), Zack (egy fiu nev) es meg sok mast. Magyarul ezeket: ho, bab, es meg egy parat. Nagyon orulunk, hogy ilyen gyorsan megertette, hogy kell osszeolvasni hangokat.

Last night we were VERY proud of Nora. During her bath I took her letters out with which we usually play. Instead of just asking her the sounds, I showed her a 3 letter English word; after she said all the sounds individually, she blended them into a word! Of course, I started making more and more words for her, and she read more than 10: cat, dog, hat, mat, bib, hot, Zack, etc. We are so glad that blending sounds comes this easy to her.

Nora has been very interested in sounds, especially what sounds words start with. At bath time we show her a letter and after she knows what sound it makes (sometimes on her own, sometimes with our help) she says words that start with that sound. Or we tell her a word and she tells us what sound it starts with. The past 2 days she has been doing an excellent job with this; in fact, I don’t even have to ask her what the first sound is – as soon as I tell her a random word she tells me the beginning sound.

Norika mostanaban nagyon szeret szokezdo hangokkal jatszani. A furdes kozben mutatunk neki betuket, es miutan tudja milyen hangot mondanak (neha egyedul neha a segitsegunkkel), ad egy peldat egy szora ami azzal a hanggal kezdodik. Maskor mondunk neki szavakat, es o megmondja milyen hanggal kezdodnek a szavak. Sot, mar nem is kell kerdeznem, hogy mivel kezdodik ez meg az a szo; ahogy kimondok egy szot, o mar mondja is a kezdohangot.

Nora has been showing us a wonderful memory.  She remembers and mentions events that happened many months ago.

Norika emlekezotehetsege bamulatba ejt minket.  Olyan esemenyeket emlit meg nekunk, amik honapokkal ezelott tortentek.

Nora learned and played picture Dominos with me a few times today.  This was the first time she played a game that had directions and she had to take turns.

Nori megtanulta, hogy kell kepes domino jatekot jatszani.  Most eloszor jatszott egy olyan jatekot, aminek szabalyai vannak es ahol egymasra kell varni.

Nora pays a lot of attention to order now, both to physical order (putting things in order) and to order in time (we’ll do this first, then that.)
