The Comber Girl / A fésűs lány

June 6th, 2008 by gizella

– - – - – - –

Last night Nora suddenly disappeared, then she showed up with a comb and started coming my hair. She did it for at least 10 minutes with a lot of concentration, then she asked her dad:
- Daddy, when I grow up can I be a comber girl?
- Yes, you can. And whose hair will you comb?
- Mommy’s, yours and Anthony’s ( a little friend who spent the day with us.)

This was the third profession so far Nora has come up with for her future. She usually wants to be a teacher and a doctor.

Nora read words / Nori olvasott szavakat

January 23rd, 2008 by gizella

Tegnap este NAGYON buszkek voltunk Norira. A furdes kozben eloszedtem a betuit, amivel jatszani szoktunk. Csodak csodajara, miutan egyenkent megmondta a hangokat, ossze is olvasta oket.

Last night we were VERY proud of Nora. During her bath I took her letters out with which we usually play. Instead of just asking her the sounds, I showed her a 3 letter English word; after she said all the sounds individually, she blended them into a word! Of course, I started making more and more words for her, and she read more than 10: cat, dog, hat, mat, bib, hot, Zack, etc. We are so glad that blending sounds comes this easy to her.

English is not easy/ Az a franya angol nyelv

January 15th, 2008 by gizella

Pl. Emlekszel, amikor beutottem a toe-imat? (toe=labujj)
A babaim is a bed-emben fognak sleep-elni. (bed=agy, sleep=alszik)

Recently Nora has been saying words, phrases and sentences that make us smile. Just like other children, she has trouble with past tense. These are the funniest ones:
Instead of did, she says do-ed, which sounds like dood. Instead of went, she says go-ed (goad).

2 sentences she said recently:
Why did I not gonna come?
Why did I not be good today?

And when Mark and Nora were baking cookies from a homemade cookie jar (all the ingredients are in a jar), Mark told me:
“I found a flaw in the cookie jar method.” (The brown sugar was stuck to the bottom.)
Nora nervously looked in the jar:
“Where? Where is the fly?”

The Wonders of Speech at 3 – A beszed csodai 3 evesen

December 21st, 2007 by admin

This week Nora made us laugh 3 times – just by saying something that she didn’t even intend to be funny.

On Monday Mark told us at dinner that Jim (his former boss) told him to tell Happy Holidays to us. Nora asked: “Did Ms. Doreen (her GYM teacher) also say that?” It took us a few seconds to understand that she thought that the GYM was sending us “his” greetings.

On Wednesday she had to finish a cup of yogurt which she had opened. When daddy saw her in front of her Advent Calendar (filled with chocolate) instead of the table he asked: “Nora, did you finish your yogurt?” She replied: “Yes.” Daddy: “Are you LYING?” Nora: “No, I am sitting.”

On Thursday I took her on a walk in the neighborhood. She pointed at a house and asked me (in Hungarian): “Mami, who lives there?” I said: “I don’t know those people.” She replied: “Then they are nervous (idegeSek).” What she meant to say was: strangers=idegeNek.

Erre Mark megkerdezte tole: Hazudsz (are you lying)? Nori valasza: nem, ulok. Ugyanis az Are you lying mondat azt is jelenti, hogy fekszel?

Csutortokon setalni mentunk este. Nori ramutatott egy hazra es megkerdezte: Ki lakik itt anyu? Azt valaszoltam, hogy nem ismerem oket. Erre Nori: akkor ok biztos idegeSek (idegenek).

English is not easy / Nem konnyu az angol nyelv

May 27th, 2007 by gizella

We’ve been hearing some cute phrases from Nora that are said incorrectly but they make sense.  Here are 2 of them:

A few days ago she asked Daddy if we had any BUMBLE gum (instead of bubble gum).

Today we told her that we were going to go to an outdoor party, a festival.  A few minutes later she told us that we should leave for the VEGETABLE (festival) party.

First sounds / Szavak kezdo hangja

March 6th, 2007 by gizella

Nora has been very interested in sounds, especially what sounds words start with. At bath time we show her a letter and after she knows what sound it makes (sometimes on her own, sometimes with our help) she says words that start with that sound. Or we tell her a word and she tells us what sound it starts with. The past 2 days she has been doing an excellent job with this; in fact, I don’t even have to ask her what the first sound is – as soon as I tell her a random word she tells me the beginning sound.

Norika mostanaban nagyon szeret szokezdo hangokkal jatszani. A furdes kozben mutatunk neki betuket, es miutan tudja milyen hangot mondanak (neha egyedul neha a segitsegunkkel), ad egy peldat egy szora ami azzal a hanggal kezdodik. Maskor mondunk neki szavakat, es o megmondja milyen hanggal kezdodnek a szavak.

Thank you / Koszonom

March 3rd, 2007 by gizella

Today Nora said Thank you for the first time correctly. Up until now it sounded like Thank – Come (thank you – your welcome).

Ma Nori eloszor mondta ki a koszonom szot angolul helyesen. Angolul a kifejezes: koszonom neked. A neked helyett viszont a (szivesen) valasznak a veget rakta oda, aminek magyarul valami ilyen lenne a megfeleloje: koszo-vesen.

Sentences. Mondatok.

January 26th, 2007 by gizella

Nora started saying long sentences; today she said thhis one in Hungarian: “The firemen opened Samantha’s car.”  She also switches languages in the middle of the sentence if she is talking to me but she said or will say something in English to an English speaking person.  For example: Meg fogom kerdezni Taffy nenit “Do you have a big belly”? (I am going to ask Ms. Taffy ….)

Nori egyre hosszabb  mondatokat mond. Pl. Meg fogom kerdezni Taffy nenit “Do you have a big belly”? (Nagy a pocid?)
